It Must Be The Water! An Earth Day Reminder

Updated: Aug 15, 2023

About month ago, I was listening to a podcast where the host was describing the work of Dr. Masaru Emoto, a well-known Japanese researcher. Dr. Emoto was one of the first of his time to introduce the concept of water consciousness to the world. His unique and creative experiments scientifically demonstrated that water is sensitive to our thoughts, words, feelings and even music. And because of this, water can change its molecular structure according to the environment to which it is introduced. (1)

It is also important to note that our bodies are made up of approximately 60-70% water, and the planet Earth is covered by 71% water. Water is a substance that all life depends upon. It is called the “universal solvent’ because of its ability to dissolve more substances than any other liquid.(2). This incredible intelligence, combined with the concept of water consciousness, has tremendous implications regarding healing and preventative medicine for ourselves and for our planet.

I always believed in Dr. Emoto’s work, and I own two of his books “Love Thyself” and “Water Crystal Healing.” I have found his methodology, and the evidence presented to be incredibly profound. So after listening to the podcast discussing Dr. Emoto's work, I felt compelled to repeat his experiment with rice and water for myself. I wanted to see what I already believed.

I labelled three of my retsina wine glassed with the following words: "Love, Dislike, Ignore." I then filled each glass with the same amount of rice and water.

I put the glasses on my kitchen table equidistant from each other. The only difference was Ignore was slightly shielded from my vision by my fruit holder to block it from my line of sight as much as possible. For the next two weeks, twice a day, I spoke to both Love and Dislike, and I completely ignored Ignore.

Every morning and every evening I said the following to Love:

“I love you, I thank you and I respect you, You are amazing, You are incredible, beautiful and strong. I have your back. You've got this. I love you no matter what."

And to Dislike (also morning and evening):

“No one likes you. You're a failure. You messed up. You're an idiot.”

And to Ignore: Nothing, nada, not a peep.

I ignored this glass of rice and water completely. Not a word, not even a glance.

After just five days I began to notice changes on the surface of the water. I was amazed. And, at the seven-day mark, I noticed I was beginning to feel reluctant to say the unkind words to Dislike.

And I was feeling even more disturbed about ignoring Ignore. Even as I write this, I still sense that sadness in my heart. I continued for another week until I began to smell a slightly sweet and pungent odour of fermenting rice coming from Love. And when I looked at the water in the glasses more closely, I was even more impressed with the power of this simple experiment.

The photographs speak for themselves:

LOVE

DISLIKE

IGNORE

I decided to end my experiment at fourteen days, as I now had enough proof of what I already believed. And to be totally honest, I felt really badly about Dislike and Ignore. Sounds a bit silly, but when we truly consider the impact that our words, thoughts and intentions have on each other, ourselves, and our planet, it's not silly at all. Rather it’s another wake-up call to become more conscious human beings. How we speak to ourselves, each other and all life does indeed make a difference. Perhaps most shockingly, is understanding how the act of ignoring ourselves, others, and especially the Earth, is essentially a slow, guaranteed kill.

Dr. Emoto said it perfectly:

“To give your positive or negative attention to something is a way of giving energy. The most damaging form of behavior is withholding your attention.”

― Masaru Emoto, The Hidden Messages in Water

While I emptied out the water of the three glasses and put the rice in my compost, I apologized profusely to Dislike and especially to Ignore. I said loving words and asked them both for forgiveness. I am hoping and trusting those grains of rice and the water that held them, were able to receive my apology and forgive me.

Earth Day April 22nd is approaching. Perhaps this experiment will remind us to pay attention to what really matters; Healing ourselves AND our planet.

Happy Earth Day Everyone!
